Gen Z Embraces "Offline Clubs" to Combat Screen Time and Reconnect

A growing movement across Europe sees young adults actively seeking "offline clubs" to replace screen time with genuine human connection.

This trend emerges as surveys reveal a significant portion of teenagers feel worse from excessive social media use, with nearly half of British respondents wishing they were young in a world without the internet. Despite being seen as highly susceptible to smartphone addiction, younger generations are increasingly aware of social media's negative impact on their mental well-being and are eager to unplug.

Leading this charge is "The Offline Club," a Dutch social initiative that ironically boasts over half a million Instagram followers. The club organizes screen-free public spaces and events, typically in cafes, where activities like board games, reading, and face-to-face interaction take center stage. They also host digital detox retreats, encouraging participants to completely disconnect from all digital devices.
